I have kept putting off posts until now, but this caught my attention and I had to post it.
"...There should be a limit to press freedom."
-Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey
That was quoted in the Feb 3rd online edition of The Economist, in responce to the cartoon images of Muhammed published in a Danish newspaper.
I don't want to launch into a long tirade here. My message to anyone who's offended. Get over it. It's not like Muhammed is the first one to ever be the butt of a joke. Hell, in any given moment, there's a flag of the U.S. on fire somewhere. Bush regurally gets slandered in our own capital just about every day, and so did every president before him. And if Jesus was ever offended by appearing in a comic strip, well, the boys at Penny Arcade have already damned us to hell...=)
In other news!
The Royal Navy launches the first iPod compatable warship. Nevermind the fact I can't get a Dodge Neon that's iPod compatable, this thing comes with 5in guns, vertical launch systems, and an iPod dock connector. I shit you not.
I have always maintained that Pluto is not a planet. Depending how things work out, it will either lose planet status, or we'll gain a new one. That's cause astronomers have found another body, farther out than Pluto, and actually a bit larger. The debate is on as to wheither or not we'll have a 10th planet. What do you think? Is it a Kuiper Belt object, or planet?

*snickers about the IPod warship*
I agree with you on the Muhammad jokes...I mean...I've seen Jesus jokes that make those look like an episode of Rugrats...
didn't they discover that planet when I was like in second grade?
Or, rather, was my imagination so wild and frantic that such a thing was an illusion, similar to an imaginary friend, but not so far fatched that I shouldn't have been medicated? Hum...
Yeah I thought the question of a tenth planet has been around for a while. Don't remmber when I first heard about it though, but maybe you not so crazy Lizzie!! But I'll be disappointed if pluto loses its status as a planet ... he always was my favorite.
As for the ipod warship.. I suppose those boys need something to occupy their time.
If people think the press shouldn't be entirely free, I think we're going to start seeing problems. As I always saw it, you have to fight ideas with more ideas, fight words with words. If someone's idea is stupid and unfounded its not by censuring it that you get rid of it (we know that censuring doesn't work- at least not over time). You have to come back with good arguments....
